Meet DD Meeks

"Creative soul qualities are...not just in the expression of creativity, but in the appreciation of it as well. Creativity is interactive and art is alchemical; its power is in its capacity to affect and transform the artist and the audience."  Jean Shinoda Bolen

This mask is a self in itself, and also a self-portrait that connects to my mixed heritage of Native American Coastal Indians, of Northern Europeans from Scotland and Ireland coastal regions, of the Tuscany region of Italy and the Mediterranean Sea.

When I was a child in this current lifetime, I believed I was a mermaid. I have always loved water and am an abalone diver, kayaker, and swimmer who has swum among 16 dolphins and 6 immense and gentle manta rays.

On shore I ventured, hiked, backpacked, and camped with family and friends in Marin County where I grew up, to the Sierra Mountains, to the Sonoma coast, northern California mountains, and the redwood forests. I was gifted treasures from seas, lakes, rivers, and forests, and now pass them on to you through my artwork. I currently live and work in Portland, Oregon.

I have always had interests in the arts and sciences, and was born a naturalist. I teach individual and group art classes, and I've worked for 30 years as an occupational therapist, art educator, art therapist, and teaching consultant, in both therapeutic and school settings. I am energized by the beautiful patterns I see, and the experiences I have in nature. I work these designs, utilizing sacred geometry, into my drawings and sculptures.

Since you’re part angel, I know you understand.
